Samsung's Galaxy S6 Gets Torn Down; Reveals Tightly Packed Construction

When smartphones like Samsung’s Galaxy S6 are announced it’s easy to forget that a lot of engineering has gone into making such a small and slim device. This year, Samsung debuted a completely new design language for the Galaxy S line, and the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are some of the best-looking smartphones that Samsung have ever created. They’re also packed full of sensors and some of the latest technology that result in super-fast wireless speeds, excellent storage speeds and a vastly improved camera experience. For a lot of us, it’s what’s on the outside that makes a smartphone so appealing, but it’s always interesting to peel back the exterior and see what’s under the hood.

The Galaxy S6 might not go on sale until next month, but the folks at Myfixguide have managed to get their hands on one early and they’ve gone ahead and tore it to pieces. While not quite as thorough as a guide from ifixit would be, this reveals to us the overall layout of the Galaxy S6 and how Samsung managed to pack in all those components into such a slim frame. Of particular interest here is just how small that octa-core Exynos 7420 of Samsung’s really is. It’s positively tiny in these photos and the sensors that Samsung continues to include in their smartphones are extremely small here as well. The camera has been mounted to its own piece of circuitboard this year to avoid any unwanted movement and the overall design is packed tight with all sorts of chips and sensors.

There’s not much commentary to go with these pictures, unfortunately, but for a first-look at what’s inside of Samsung’s latest and greatest, this is an interesting look into just how smartphone manufacturers can pack so many components into one device. With the Galaxy S6, Samsung has proven itself not just as a smartphone designer, but also a manufacturer. For years, Samsung has taken care of production themselves, but never has a device from Samsung been so self-reliant, with the beating heart of this year’s flagship being powered by Samsung’s own processor, the powerful Exynos 7420. Take a look at the gallery below.
