The beautiful Klosters skiing region is world famous as the winter playground of the English royalty. At 4000 feet above sea level the village of Klosters has access to over 190 miles of prepared pistes extending over six different areas including the neighbouring village of Davos. The main area, Gotschna-Parsenn, has 95 miles of pistes culminating on top of the Weissfluh at 9331 feet. There are two home-runs back to Klosters, one of which brings you down to Selfranga, only a short walk from the apartment. In fact, you will probably find the home run from Schwarzseealp to be one of the highlights of your skiing holiday as you follow the twisting path down through the forest. Its a 600m decent over 3 kilometers and marked as red piste no. 49 on the piste-map.
You can also ski down to Davos (and come back up on the lifts) or try the incredible home-runs down to Serneus or Kublis which is 8 miles long and 6673 feet descent! Klosters also has a second area, Madrisa, which has no shortage of blue & red runs plus some marked but unpisted runs from the top. There is plenty of off-piste skiing too but please make sure you check the local snow reports first. The other Davos areas (Jakobhorn, Rinerhorn and Pischa) are also included in the regional ski-pass and travel on the train between Klosters and Davos is free too so you can easily try out all the areas.
The main cable car to the Gotscha-Parsenn ski area is 10-15 minutes walk down hill or you can take the local ski-bus just around the corner (also free with the guest card).
The Ski and Snowboard School in Klosters offers a wide variety of individual and group courses for adults and children. The downhill skiing lessons run from Sunday to Friday but children are also allowed to start their courses on Monday. Children have a choice of morning-only or whole-day lessons with lunch and lunch-time childminding available for a small surcharge.
The Selfranga ski lift is 5 minutes walk from the apartment, along with the Selfranga "Ski Arena" and free-style snowbarding park. This lift is flood-lit twice a week so you can experience the excitement of sking and sledging at night when the lights in the village provide a fairytale backdrop.
Winter walking through the crisp snow is one pleasure that many keen skiers will miss out on. This sign-post is in the grounds of the apartment. You can take the easy trail up to Wolfgang or try the easier 'Dwarves-Path' and wander over to Aueja and Monbiel. Fabulous!
Ice skating, ice hockey & curling are 15 minutes walk away at the sports centre together with the start of the horse-driven sledge route which runs up the valley to Monbiel. The main cross-country loop is 10 minutes walk away at the bottom of the hill. The Gotschna cable car also takes you to the start of a super sledge run, and yes, we provide sledges too! If you need to relax after a days skiing you can either use the sauna in the basement (shared with 4 other apartments so you have to reserve it the day before) or soak those aching muscles in one of the local indoor pools - there are four hotels which permit non-residents to use their pools and spa facilities for a fee.
The neighbouring town of Davos is worth a visit. A pleasant town in the valley surrounded by mountains, it is where the WEF (World Economic Forum) is held, and is also famous for it's ice hockey team. Ice hockey is a popular sport in Switzerland and HCD (Hockey Club Davos) is one of Switzerland's top teams. Every year they host the famous Spengler Cup in Davos, in which teams from the NHL and other leagues across the world come and play against Davos. Davos have often won it.
