A set of four pictures emerged from the Interweb. They show a camera that might be the upcoming Canon EOS R1.
The images never show the moniker of the camera, and it seems this is on purpose. It’s all a bit fishy, so take it with a grain of salt. A big one. The pictures were allegedly taken at the GP of Monaco.

It seems Adorama jumped the gun too early and published the specifications of the upcoming Canon EOS R1.
The page has been taken down, but PetaPixel was able to capture a screenshot, see below.

Canon registered four products that have not yet been announced. All four refer to video gear, according to a blogger from Cina.
Usually well informed Weibo user E8M_8888 posted the list of the registration IDs:
Now the funny part. E8M_8888 writes (machine translated):

If you wonder what or who the “influential overseas entry stations” are, it’s the well known hysterical rumor sites we all know š. According to E8M_8888 they are all wrong in their speculations: all four IDs refer to video gear. The products have been registered at a WiFi registration authority.
Time will tell. In the meantime forget rumors and go out snapping photos.
Latest murmuring from usually well informed Asian sources suggest that Canon might have already put some new gear into the hands of selected photographers. Field tests, so to say.
A rumor surfaced on Weibo suggests:

We think this rumor has a high likelihood to be reliable. But then: who knows.

This is a new one: rumors about shipping of a camera that has yet to be announced (the EOS R5 Mark II).
Latest has it that the Canon EOS R5 Mark II will start shipping around June or July 2024. The rumores announcement date was late April or early May 2024.
The source of the rumor thinks…:
[…] a May announcement will make the most sense. There are a few things that happen before a major launch and the timeline they follow has been relatively similar for years. We can’t expand on that.We have also been told from a retail source, that they are preparing for theĀ EOS R5 Mark IIĀ to begin shipping in late June/July of this year.
Another source claims that production of theĀ EOS R5 Mark IIĀ has begun, how far into the production process they are is unknown at this time.

A well known rumors mill came up with an interesting rumor. AI coming to be featured on the Canon EOS R5 Mark II. But is it reliable?
The long rumored Canon EOS R5 Mark II is now said to feature artificial intelligence (AI). While there are no suggestions about what AI might do on the EOS R5 Mark II, it is likely it will regard autofocus. AI could be helpful in tracking faces and/or people, even specific faces or people. But it might also be used for in-camera processing, scene settings. If the AI rumor is true, you might expect it to be featured on the EOS R1 too.
The EOS R5 Mark II is now rumored to have 45MP (60MP in the past). Moreover, both the EOS R5 Mark II and “white unicorn”-EOS R1 are said to be announced around May 2024.
Please be aware that rumors are nothing but rumors, and that there is people relying on them to pay the bills at month’s end. So, do not take anything too serious. Even better, forget rumors and go out to snap pictures.
