The name ‘Tama-Ohi’ in Tongan, literally translates to ‘Child-Adoption’ (‘Tama’ means ‘child’ and Ohi means ‘adopt’) and it was given by the Queen-mother of Tonga, Halaevalu Mata’aho, on February 2011 in Auckland. It is referred to her ‘adopted special need children’ from the Aalonga Centre for Disabled in Tonga but now residing in Aotearoa. This theme is guided by the Scripture as in Romans 8:15-16 ” 15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.. 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:” ‘Tama-Ohi Radio Ministry’ was launched by our regional MP Hon. Sam Lotu ‘Iga on 23rd July 2011 – the same date in 1834 that Tongans refer to as the ‘To ‘ae ‘Ofa ‘i ‘Utui, Vava’u’ when the Holy Spirit came upon the people of Tonga, empowered their missionaries to travel by boats and share the Gospel with our neighbouring islands of Samoa, Fiji, Wallis and Futuna, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea and to the rest of the world.

Therefore, our mission is to announce the ‘Good News’ that God has already adopted every individual as His own child, through the sacrifice of His Son Jesus Christ’. The Family of God is now open to each of us. It is yours here and now. Think like it, talk like it, walk like it and act like it. May God’s blessings be upon His children.
