Philippe Jean-Mairet guitar builder from Switzerland builds custom-made guitars.

• Together, these factors led me, in 1975, to my decision to build custom-made guitars. Although I acquired many of the skills of guitar-building myself, I also had the privilege of learning from Francisco Manuel Diaz, the famous luthier and flamenco guitarist from Granada. Francisco invited me into his atelier, where I gained insight into the fascinating work of guitar building. He supported me generously during the early stages of my work as a luthier.

• I also had the good fortune to perfect my skills with French polish in Granada in the workshop of Manuel Bellido. And I had the further privilege of taking master classes with jose Romanillos in Cordoba.

• I was born in Lucerne and grew up bilingual in Bern, speaking French and German.

• After training as a draftsman,
I spent a number of years in Spain, where I discovered the art of guitar building and the wonderful worlds of classical and flamenco guitar music.

• Upon returning to Switzerland,
I studied classical guitar at the Con-
servatory in Bern. I was especially interested in flamenco music, which I studied intensively, along with the classical repertoire.

• Numerous concerts with various groups followed at home and abroad, in which I appeared as both classical and flamenco guitarist.
