IAG is leading an ESA-TRP on Ablation-Radiation Coupling. The international team consists of EPFL-TIC and EPFL-CRPP; IRS Stuttgart; CIRA; Fluid Gravity Engineering (FGE); The Centre of Hypersonics (CfH) at the The University of Queensland (UQ) and G. Duffa. Testing materials are provided by ASTRIUM St. Médard

 

The first VUV radiation measurements for hypersonic super-orbital re-entry flight conditions were performed in the X2 expansion tube of teh University of Queensland within this project

The First ever Plasma Wind Tunnel VUV radiation measurements in high altitude flight conditions of Hayabusa re-entry have been successfully performed at IRS on ablating samples of low-density ablators using the VUV spectrometer of CRPP-EPFL and the intensified camera of UQ

We are looking for a European or Swiss only (for contractual reasons) student interested to perform her/his Master Project with the TIC group, http://tic.epfl.ch on characterising ablative material with collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA).

The Interdisciplinary Aerodynamics Group (IAG) is a research group within the Institute of Mechanical Engineering (IGM) of the School of Engineering (STI) at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology - Lausanne (EPFL). The IAG is involved in a wide range of basic and applied research in computational and experimental science and engineering with an emphasis on aerospace and aeronautics.
