What Are Site Stairways?
Site stairways, sometimes called container stairscontainer stairs, are used on construction sites for a number of problem situations including civil engineering projects, between floors on RC frame contracts or on motorway and railway embankments.
Stairway systems are typically made of square galvanised steel hollow profiles with steps made from slip proof coarse-meshed expanded metal, and usually with steel handrails.
The move towards greater use of container stairs is a result of a change in best practices and increasing regulations that have supported the move away from ladders in general construction activities. The Health and Safety Executive states that ladders are the bottom of the hierarchy of controls and that their use may be justified providing it is not reasonably practicable to use other work equipment which will prevent or mitigate a fall.

Well, the Edge Protection Federation, which is the main authoritative body for the industry, describes edge protection as:
“primarily to prevent persons and objects from falling to a lower level.”
I think you’ll agree that’s quite a broad definition, especially considering there are so many different types of edge protection that are available, such as from InterTLC.
In most modern day constructions and refurbishments, you will see two basic types of edge protection. Up to, but not usually including roof height, Proprietary Edge Protection Systems are commonly installed. At roof height, Tube and Fitting Edge Protection Systems are more typical.
As always, it is important that the correct system is installed for its use, that the system conforms to BS EN 13374: 2013, and that those involved in the installation, adjustment and removal are all competent.
Common Edge Protection Solutions include Mesh Barrier Systems, Net Barrier Systems, Counterweight Systems, Screen Protection Systems and Tubular guardrail solutions. Each one offers different benefits and limitations so it’s important to pick the right edge protection for each project.

The distance from Coventry in the West Midlands to Brighton in East Sussex varies between 158 miles and 200 miles depending on the roads you take. However, the quickest route is down the M40, around the M25 and then following the M23 all the way to the south coast. At best this journey should take between 2h45 and 3h in car, though at rush hour it can take a lot longer (especially if you get caught up on the M25).
A coach from Coventry to Brighton will take a lot longer, as you will need to change bus in London and so it will take around 5h30m.
Taking a train will also involve plenty of changes in London but won’t take any more than 3 hours in most cases.
So, the best bet for going from Coventry to Brighton will definitely be either taking the car or getting a train.

It may seem a little crazy these days but the River Thames used to freeze over a lot! In fact, between 1400 and 1814 the Thames froze over on 24 occasions. Though you might thank that this had something to do with some kind of ice age during previous centuries, it was actually mainly to do with the flow of the river. The Thames was broader and shallower in the Middle Ages, with no embankment, and this meant there was a slower flow, perfect for icing over. As the infrastructure of the river changed, with new piers and bridges, the flow began to increase and now it’s almost impossible for the river to completely freeze over.
What’s remarkable about the fact that the Thames used to freeze over is that on these instances the people would actually hold fairs on the river, full of drinking, revelry and all kinds of events. One time even an elephant was walked across the ice. There’s a really interesting article about the River Thames’ Frost Fairs at Thames Leisure.
So, to answer the above question the last time the Thames actually completely froze over was in 1814. There have been partial freezes since, such as The Big Freeze of 1963 but it’s unlikely we’ll ever see a Frost Fair on the river again.
