We invite NVIDIA, the globally leading accelerated computing platform company, to present Earth-2, the AI platform to accelerate climate and extreme weather predictions. This event is part of the Data Science Après-Midi offered by the Swiss Actuarial Association Data Science Working Group.

Abstract
In the first part, Marc Stampfli will discuss NVIDIA's forefront position in the artificial intelligence revolution, emphasizing the evolution of the market through the application of Generative AI and large language models. He will provide an overview of the underlying technology, offering insights that enable a deeper understanding of its technological foundations and market influence. In the subsequent section, Jochen Papenbrock will delve into a particular case study within Financial Services: the NVIDIA Earth-2 AI project. This initiative is transforming the management of extreme weather risks through the use of cutting-edge Generative AI and analytical techniques. The project focuses on improving climate risk evaluation and enhancing resilience with advanced modelling and data-centric approaches.

Marc Stampfli, Business Director Switzerland, NVIDIA Switzerland
Marc is computer scientist and responsible for developing NVIDIA in Switzerland focusing on modern artificial intelligence with deep learning. He has a master in computer science from University of Zurich and has more than 23 years of experience in developing new technology market segments for enterprise companies. Before NVIDIA, Marc was working in leading positions for major technology companies from Silicon Valley such as IBM, Oracle, but as well traditional companies such as Colt Technology Services and PricewaterhouseCoopers. He is an enthusiastic speaker that can explain difficult technological topics in simple words so that everybody can follow and understand.

Dr. Jochen Papenbrock, Head of Financial Technology EMEA at NVIDIA
Jochen has spent the last 25 years in various roles on the topic of AI in financial services, as a thought leader, implementer, researcher, and ecosystem shaper. He works with executives, data scientists, developers, partners, and communities in the global NVIDIA ecosystem. At NVIDIA he also leads up the global topics Trustworthy AI and Sustainable Finance / Environmental Risk in financial services. Jochen is a financial data scientist and received his degree and Ph.D. from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Before NVIDIA he worked as a consultant, entrepreneur, and researcher with asset managers, banks, insurance companies, and central banks.

The event will be moderated by Alessandro Torre, Actuary and Data Scientist at Swiss Re, and Parisa Mamooler, Data & Analytics Engineer at Swiss Re. The event will be hosted at the Swiss Re Auditorium at Zürich Enge. Please use the visitor entrance near the reception.
