It’s a tale as old as time (probably): Girl wears Chanel, girl falls in love with Chanel, girl marries in Chanel, girl becomes the face of Chanel. Well, at least that’s somewhat the order for Charlotte Casiraghi, the eleventh in line to the throne of Monaco and the daughter of Caroline, Princess of Hanover (in addition, her grandma’s the late Grace Kelly).

The 34-year-old’s love story with the iconic Parisian fashion house began as early as childhood, which was certainly helped by the fact that her mom had a lifelong friendship with the great Karl Lagerfeld.

Now, Casiraghi has perhaps realised the inevitable, levelling up on her front row seat at Chanel runway shows to star in her first fashion campaign for the fashion house which is now led by Virginie Viard. Casiraghi even shared that even though her wedding dress was designed by Lagerfeld, it was Viard who was personally present at her fittings to ensure her couture creation looked princess-perfect.

It was also this very moment that Casiraghi looked back on in bittersweet fashion because in retrospect it appeared like a passing of the torch between the two designers. It’s this passing of the torch moment that is perhaps symbolic for Viard too in her choice of casting Casiraghi for the spring-summer 2021 campaign – one that is perhaps the start of another new friendship between a Chanel designer and Monaco’s princely family.
