Apollo Kuwahara

The Apollo Kuwahara was a low end non-factory BMX bike made by Kuwahara and sold as an Apollo Kuwahara in North America. It used a mild steel frame instead of Chromoly like the Factory Kuwahara bikes. The Apollo had a metal badge that was riveted on the headtube and came with a unique front gusset with three little holes in it. The Apollo Kuwahara was made in Japan and was targeted for beginner BMX riders on a very low budget or an affordable street bike for having fun with.

The Apollo Kuwahara was also sold in the E.T. colors and was the low end "Toy Store Model" Kuwahara bike.

Tim from Canada is the owner of this Canadian model Apollo Kuwahara. It is all original except for the Motomag wheels and Shimano brakes.

Here is a NOS frame and fork set from Japan. It is the same Apollo frame with the three hole single gusset but notice the head tube sticker is like the ET (loop tail) bikes and the positioning of the front fork stickers. These colors were sold in very limited numbers and are quite rare today.

Some more pictures of an old Apollo Kuwahara on the right in white. Most (not all) of Apollo Kuwahara bikes did not come with Kuwahara stickers on the front forks, just on the frame. 46K - Click for full size image

51K - Click for full size image Here are some pictures of the Apollo bike in the E.T. colors. This was the "Toy Store model" E.T Kuwahara. This should not be confused with the real "loop tail" model. Notice the single gusset and non-loop tail. 37K - Click for full size image

40K - Click for full size image This is me on my brand new Chrome Apollo Kuwahara back in the early 1980's. About one week after buying the bike I pried off the Apollo badge on the head tube and replaced it with a Factory decal set cause I could not afford the Factory bikes back then. I added Chrome pads, Dia-Compe brakes, F-1 grips, Araya rims and had some great times with this old bike. My sister actually rode this bike in the movie "RAD" as a movie extra when we were growing up as kids in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Unfortunately this bike was later on stolen.....
