The Higgs boson may have been found ! AND RESULTED IN THE NOBEL PRIZE FOR PHYSICS 2013 !
CERN announced on the 4th
July 2012 that the elementary particle known as Higgs boson, which was
predicted tens of years ago within the standard model of particle physics, has
been detected with 2 different spectrometers. The statistical confidence is
about 4.9
(~99.99994%).
These are properties of
the found (possibly) Higgs boson:
Mass:
|
~ 2.25 * 10-25 kg
(125.3
± 0.6) GeV/c2
|
Spin:
|
0
|
Electric charge:
|

Note:
The results presented on 4th July 2012 were labelled as
“preliminary” as they are based on data collected in 2011 & 2012.
However, the 2012 data is still under analysis. The scientists from CERN plan
to confirm the measurements in the next some months, after having analysed
the data completely.
