Somewhere inside of all of us is the power to change the world

Mayor John Cowman is a visionary leader with a relentless drive for progress. From his early days mowing lawns to his current role as a dedicated public servant in the City of Leander, Cowman's passion for a brighter future has always shone through.

Even as a young boy, John set his sights high. At the tender age of ten, he embarked on his entrepreneurial journey by mowing lawns and saving every penny to fulfill his dream of owning a car by the time he graduated from High School. True to his determined nature, he achieved this goal with flying colors, purchasing a 1976 Ford Ranchero just one week before graduation. This early success set the stage for a lifetime of ambition and forward thinking.

Throughout his tenure on the Leander City Council, Cowman has been a driving force behind initiatives that shape the city's growth and development. His focus on new urbanism, public transportation, clean energy, accessibility, and mixed-use density zones has not only transformed Leander but also set a benchmark for regional cooperation and sustainable development.

One of Cowman's key strengths lies in his ability to forge partnerships between public and private entities, fostering collaborations that have become integral to the region's success. His leadership in creating regional partnerships with organizations such as HEB, PEC, ACC, and CapMetro has not only benefited Leander but has also extended his influence to other regions seeking to replicate his recipe for success.

Beyond his professional achievements, Cowman's commitment to community welfare is evident in his support for initiatives like the Leander Arts Ordinance, the Library Foundation, and the Mayors Committee on People with Disabilities. These endeavors reflect his values and dedication to making Leander a more inclusive and vibrant city.

Before his political career, John's journey from Duncan U. Fletcher Senior High School in Florida to Austin Community College shaped his strong work ethic and sense of responsibility. As a licensed Texas Real Estate Broker and Developer, he brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his role as a public servant.

Cowman's dedication to fairness and social responsibility is deeply rooted in his extensive volunteer work, focusing on mentorship, accessibility, transportation, and child welfare. His commitment to serving the community extends beyond his professional duties, reflecting a genuine desire to make a positive impact on the lives of those around him.

In his personal life, John finds joy in activities like golf, tennis, and cycling, reflecting his energetic and active nature. With a loving family by his side, including his daughters Megan, Victoria, and Carter Anne, as well as his sister Janis and his mother in Georgetown, and his brother Jim in the Lake Travis area, Cowman's values of family, community, and progress are at the core of everything he does.

Mayor John Cowman's story is one of determination, vision, and unwavering commitment to building a better tomorrow. His enthusiastic approach to leadership and his tireless efforts to drive positive change make him a true inspiration for Leander and beyond. As we look ahead to the future, Mayor Cowman's legacy of progress and collaboration will continue to shape the city's growth and prosperity for years to come.
