FERNANDO CABRAL THROWBACK . Staying with the green theme to welcome Spring, here’s a piece I’ve revisited before. Placed in a forested thicket to accentuate this runway shot showing the camo fit supermodel Fernando Cabral donned for the Mark McNairy S/S15 show, his cat-like stealth & grace and visual magnatism, the intended accentuatee inevitably became the accentuator. . I also love the multilayered symbolism that emerges, at least in my mind from this image, as I’ve spent the better part of two years researching and writing the pilot episode of “Roofless,” a musical miniseries which begins its supernatural journey amongst a group of teenaged soldiers caught up in the South Sudanese War. There is something gripping about the marriage of Fernando’s purposed, determined gait through an undergrowth of tangled obstacles matched by his gaze that is simultaneously steely-eyed but equally world-weary and full-to-the-brim of disturbing images of cruelty and untimely death. .
