Rothenberg Rooftop garden

Smart. Healthy. Kids!

about us

The Rothenberg Rooftop School Garden is certainly the most interesting, and possibly the most beautiful garden in Cincinnati’s urban core. The garden provides unique learning opportunities for the students of Rothenberg Preparatory Academy through hands-on garden-based lessons that are integrated with math, science, and language arts.

The garden’s innovative program is supported, staffed and governed by an independant, non-profit corporation in strategic partnership with Rothenberg Preparatory Academy to create opportunities to enhance students’ learning in an outdoor garden classroom as well as engages neighborhood families in garden activities and skill-building.

More than growing things, the rooftop garden is an innovative model for learning and a point of pride in the historic neighborhood of Over-The-Rhine, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

SMART. HEALTHY. KIDS

We seek to enhance students’ development of critical thinking, science, math and literacy skills through hands-on application of classroom curriculum and increased community involvement in the Rothenberg Rooftop School Garden.

Every year, we serve over 350 children, engage 100’s of community partners, and provide over 30 lbs of produce for Rothenberg students and families to consume.

Integrated Garden Curriculum

Our hands-on, applied curriculum correlates to the school’s academic standards and pacing guides. This means that the concepts kids are learning daily in the garden are tied to the lessons they are receiving in the classroom.
